Frames and Stages Set to Host Chicago’s Biggest Multicultural Entertainment Event, AfroCalypso, This July 18, 2026

Idris Quadri, filmmaker, fintech manager, and founder of Frames and Stages, is set to host what he describes as Chicago’s biggest multicultural entertainment event, bringing together thousands of Africans in the diaspora and people from diverse cultural backgrounds to celebrate the richness of African creativity on a global stage.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, in Chicago, Frames and Stages’ flagship event, AfroCalypso, will feature an impressive lineup of artists and performers including Headies Award-winning singer and Mavin Records star Johnny Drille, Grammy-nominated artist Vic Mensa, comedian Darryl Vega, Guinness World Record-holding dancer Dr. Kafayat “Kaffy” Shafau, Ghanaian-American music prodigy Jude Kofi, and several other talented performers from across the creative industry.

For Idris, AfroCalypso is more than a gathering. It is a platform that showcases the richness and diversity of the African experience through music, dance, film, stage performances, and comedy.

“People often speak about Africa as though it is one country,” he says. “The reality is that Africa is a continent made up of 54 countries, each with its own stories, cultures, and creative expressions.”

Having lived in Chicago for over a decade and graduating from Full Sail University’s film program, Idris has spent years building the skills and relationships needed to execute an event of this scale. Through that journey, he has witnessed the global impact of African music, film, fashion, and storytelling, and believes there is still more room to push those stories further.

His conviction is simple: if Africa wants the world to hear its authentic stories, Africans must continue to tell them with excellence.

AfroCalypso reflects that vision, bringing those stories, sounds, and experiences together on one stage where they can be seen and appreciated in their full richness.

With an expected attendance of over 3,500 guests, the event will deliver a full cultural experience, from Johnny Drille’s soulful performance to Kaffy’s electrifying dance showcase.

Guests will also enjoy comedy by Darryl Vega and the premiere of Blight, a film shot in Surulere, Lagos, exploring contemporary realities in Nigeria.

More than an entertainment show, AfroCalypso is a celebration of culture, identity, and connection—a gathering of creatives, storytellers, and culture enthusiasts united by a shared appreciation of African excellence.

As anticipation builds, AfroCalypso promises an unforgettable evening of music, film, dance, and comedy.

Frames and Stages presents AfroCalypso on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Greenwood Oasis, Chicago, from 4:00 PM.
